Introductions — A320_Flyerboy19

Wow, December has been a month for the Infinite Flight Community! With two new updates, 21.7 and 21.8, what else could we have wanted with over 30+ new 3D airports in Infinite Flight and one new plane added with 21 liveries? I must say that the Infinite Flight Developers have done a great job!

2021 was also an excellent year for Infinite Flight (IF)! With a combined total of 8 updates with 21.1 bringing the first 3D airports and clouds into the IF world, what else could we ask for? Three new planes have been added or reworked, and the A333 is the first, followed by the A339NEO, and last but not least, the A223!

What can we expect in 2022 after a fantastic year? I want to give a personal thanks to all Infinite Flight Staff, Moderators, and behind-the-scenes people, aka the Infinite Flight developers, a round of applause!

2021 Year In Review Debrief — A320_Flyerboy19

Infinite Flight released a blog article on December 30th, 2021, about what happened in Infinite Flight this year. I must say that it is pretty impressive. Infinite Flight stated that “The air behind us has been full of adventure; the sky ahead, clear. Although 2021 still hasn’t looked “normal” for many, we’re thankful to be forging ahead, bringing new features to Infinite Flight and mobile flight simulation.” Infinite has made a significant jump in 2021 with 3D buildings and clouds.

Overall statistics

3D airports — 136

Custom 3D Towers — 20

Aircraft Liveris — 83

Reworked/added Aircraft — 3

Per every new update, Infinite Flight averages about 17 new 3D airports, about 21 fresh livers per aircraft, and two custom 3D towers per every other update! The A333 was reworked, A339NEO was added, and the A223 was added.

Next For Infinite Flight In 2022

Infinite flight at the end of the blog revealed that in 2022 we would get moving jet bridges! Infinite Flight stated, “As we look ahead to 2022, our team is excited to share something we’ve been working on that will make its way to all 3D airports in Infinite Flight; animated jet bridges! This feature is still a work-in-progress but will hopefully make it into a release soon.”

We can also expect to see Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport 3D and some highly requested liveries come to aircraft that the community has wanted. Infinite flight also stated that we don’t see big International airports like KATL because they require a lot more time and effort to build them. It’s not as simple as some people think it is.

Top 2 Feature Requests (Plane and Livery) — CaptainFlight

The Boeing 767 is our feature of the month for the December edition. The 767 request is for a complete rework for the aircraft and is one of the most requested aircraft in the community at 884 votes. The Boeing 767 is a long-haul aircraft created in the ’80s. This plane was a technological advancement for Boeing as it was the first to implement the two-crew digital glass cockpit or known as the digital instruments in the cockpits, which we now commonly see in the cockpit. The largest operator of the Boeing 767 is Delta airlines.

The livery request of the month is the ITA A320 livery. The ITA livery consists of a chrome blue with patterns on the aircraft’s tail with the Italian flag, making the livery look lovely. ITA is the airline that replaced Alitalia airlines due to financial difficulty. The new airline was created in October 2021 after the final flight of Alitalia. The livery is entirely different from its predecessor’s (Alitalia) livery.

Infinite Flight Herald Podcasts — A320_Flyerboy19

It has happened! The Infinite Flight Herald has started podcasts! The staff team has worked hard to bring you the first episode, hosted by A320_Fleryboy19 and bbrockairbus.

During the episode, you can expect a rundown of what is happening on the Infinite Flight Community, any new updates, previews or reviews, and interviews with community members that have made a difference.

In the future, we hope to have a youtube Livestream where community members can listen in on our podcasts and add more topics to the podcasts that the community gets to vote on through the Infinite Flight Herald thread.

IFATC Stats -

IFATC or Infinite Flight Air Traffic Control is a group of Infinite Flight pilots professionally trained in controlling the Expert server on Infinite Flight.

IFATC currently has 16 recruiters, 30 trainers, 226 active recruits, and 480 active controllers. With an average of one new controller joining every day, the 480 number is slowly increasing. Within this month, about 90 people control the Expert server every day. There are about 425,000 operations each month, with about 13,709 operations a day, with 40 different airports per day. So EGLL, KLAX, KSFO, and KJFK are not the only airports being controlled all the time.

Challenging Approach guide — Gtmkm98

In the world of aviation, there are many approaches into airports some would consider challenging. Whether it be a basic RNAV (RNP) approach or a visual approach around a mountain, they are all over the place on virtually every continent.

One of my favorite ‘challenging approaches’ has to be the ILS/DME Runway 02 approach into Guatemala’s La Aurora International Airport (MGGT). Due to the terrain surrounding the airport, a ‘straight-in’ ILS approach is next to impossible; especially for larger aircraft like the 777 or A330.

mggt111app.ps (jeppesen.com)

Ignore the ‘Runway 1’ markings, the approach is still virtually the same. Although there is an eastern ILS/DME (the ILS Z), we are sticking to the western ILS/DME Y today. Upon reaching AUR VOR/DME over the airport at 9000ft (accessible through several STARs into the airport), you will depart via radial 217. To fly on the radial, simply put AUR on NAV2 and change CRS2 to 217, then change the Source to NAV2 and fly it.

For the next portion of the approach, DME is required (it is at the bottom right of the NAV compass rose). You will fly the aforementioned radial until the DME strikes 6.0, where you will make a left turn. You must be at 6.0 DME at 7200ft.

You will then make a sharp left turn direct VILAN, staying within AUR 7 DME if at all possible .VILAN is at AUR DME 5.6 and DME 4.5 for I-AAI (the ILS for runway 02). VILAN must be reached at 6300ft, the descent continuous throughout the turn to VILAN. You will then tune to NAV1 (which should be tuned for the ILS runway 2) and descend using APPR mode as typical.

Minimums are at I-AAI 0.7 DME; if a missed approach is to be conducted, climb on heading 015 until AUR 2.0 DME, where you will turn direct to AUR R-350 and climb on said radial until RAYMO (AUR 10.0 DME), where you will hold.

This approach does not seem too challenging based on the article alone, but has extremely high terrain on the west, south, and east sides; any deviation from the course (especially at night) is extremely risky.
