Interview with the CEO of Etihad Virtual
Today we interviewed the CEO of Etihad Virtual, let’s take a look!
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.
A: Well! Hello there! I am Sharan Somayaji. I hail from the United States, and I’m currently living in India! I’m 17 years old, although 18 in two months. I love traveling, food and automobiles:) I might be headed to Dublin next year for my undergrad!!
Q: When did you start Etihad Virtual?
A: Actually, we got approved on the 5th of May. But we started a week before that — Omkar and I with Mafiaviation. Omkar is the present COO of Etihad Virtual. And then the rest of the staff tagged along, i.e., Captain Flight, Minimaster, and KCAviation.
Q: Give us a description of EYV.
A: Etihad Virtual. One of the great VA’s, of course, with the great pilots and staff team. Our Hub is Abu Dhabi International. And we have more than 70 destinations reaching all six continents across the globe. Our Codeshared routes try to get every nook and corner of the world, which we cant reach with our Etihad destinations, of course. So that the pilot has been to every place on IF. We at Etihad try to make every pilot feel like home, and we’re a family. I call that the Etihad Virtual Family.
Q: Do you have any upcoming events planned?
A: We have a lot of upcoming events!! Just a blooper, we have the Gulf Summit consisting of most of the Gulf VA’s coming out in June. And we have our inaugural event coming out soon:) Also, we have internal happening every Saturday! And we have daily group flights hosted by our staff members. So yes, a lot of events:)
Q: What made you want to start your virtual airline?
A: Well, I was the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Operative Officer, Human Resource Manager, and the Tech Manager at Qatar Airways Virtual. I know that was a lot, right? Haha. We planned to restart Etihad Virtual Airways since the previous one was inactive, and most of us love Etihad airways IRL. So I was sad to see it being inactive at IF. Hence we thought of restarting it and help the pilots stuck in the previous Etihad VA:)
